Throughout January, Three Plus will be observing the seasonal changes and exploring the snow. The activities that Stepping Stones have on offer will provide opportunities for children to enhance their development and follow their own interests in the following areas.

Personal, Social and Emotional Development:

  • Continuing to add to our “favourite things” wall display.
  • Celebrating birthdays (Spot’s Birthday).
  • Taking care of “Poppy” the rabbit.

Communication, Language and Literacy:

  • “Goldilocks and the Three Bears” story.
  • Winter and bedtime stories.
  • Library books.

Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy:

  • Large floor jigsaws.
  • “10 Tubby Snowmen” song
  • Counting birthday candles.

Physical Development:

  • Exploring glitter in the sand and play dough.
  • Using tools and cutters with the play dough.

Knowledge and Understanding of the World:

  • Commenting on the weather.
  • Exploring freezing and melting.
  • Using the large bricks to build and balance.
  • Exploring light and dark.

Creative Development:

  • Winter collages.
  • Glitter and aromas in the play dough.
  • Role play birthdays.
  • Free painting.

In the Nursery Garden:

  • Talking about the ever changing weather and seasons.
  • Collecting snow to explore inside.
  • Looking for robins.

Ways that parents can help their child’s learning:

  • Read bedtime stories together.
  • Continue to collect items of interest to show and display in nursery
