Throughout December, Rising 5s will be helping to prepare the nursery for Christmas. The activities that Stepping Stones have on offer will provide opportunities for children to enhance their development and follow their own interests in the following areas.
Personal, Social and Emotional Development:
Learning about Christmas and our customs.
Talking about visiting our families and friends.
Taking part in the Christmas play.
Communication, Language and Literacy:
Continuing with the Oxford Reading Tree for interested children.
Reading Christmas stories.
Letter of the month Ii.
Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy:
Using numbers from recipes.
Counting the menorah candles. (Jewish festival-Hanukah)
Using coins in role play and to learn numbers and values.
Physical Development:
Using manipulative skills to make crackers.
Using controlled movement for the Christmas play.
Knowledge and Understanding of the World:
Understanding Christmas.
Acknowledging other religious festivals (Jewish festival-Hanukah).
Using the computer.
Using torches in dark places to learn about reflection and shadows.
Creative Development:
Role play at schools, baking and at home for Christmas.
Use Christmas colours to create beautiful collages.
Exploring musical instruments.
Inside the den.
In The Nursery Garden:
Noticing the changing seasons and commenting on the weather.
Wellie walks to collect interesting resources.
Decorating outside for Christmas (lights).
